Hats

FEBRUARY 7/ 2022

What is a hat when it’s not a totem on the wall?

A bit of skull roofing, and much more:

A harbinger of adventure; A walking stick that you wear.

At times, a fan. In another breath, a gladiator’s helmet.

In the quick expanse of the forward scrawling day,

It is a manual dial on light & shade.

Rarely lost, abandoned, or given up to spider webs,

A mysterious shield, this sorcerer’s sombrero;

It always beckons at the brim for you,

to take it from its hooked wall,

and blend with you back into nature.
